Ladies navy blue coloured felt hat (part a) with a navy blue grosgrain ribbow that attached to the crown of the hat. The ribbon has a bow on the proper right side. There is a Canadian Medical Corps shank-style badge (part b) on the front that is secured to the hat by a bronze coloured bobbypin-like fastener (part c). The name of "B. E. Rowe" (Bertha Rowe) is written on the interior band of the hat and the manufacturer information is printed on the beige coloured lining. The manufacturer information is printed as follows: "BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT // SCOTT & CO. // Hatters to H. M. the King AND The Royal Family // 1 OLD BOND STREET, // PICCADILLY, W // HOLT, RENFREW & CO. LIMITED, // QUEBEC, //SOLE AGENTS".

History
- The hat was manufactured in the UK and sold in Quebec by Holt Renfrew & Co.
This hat belonged to Bertha Emily Rowe, who was one of the first nurses to be sent overseas in WWI. Bertha Rowe grew up in Brockville, Ontario. After graduating high school she entered the Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, New York for nursing, graduating with honours in 1902. Between 1902 and 1914 Bertha continued practicing nursing while traveling around the United States. When WWI broke out, she returned home to Brockville and was the first Brockville nurse to offer her services, joining the Queen's College Hospital Unit. She went with the second part of the First Contingent in the spring of 1915 and served with the unit in France and Egypt. On her return to France she transferred to England where in December of 1918, she developed pneumonia and was invalided home. She received the 'Mons Star' for her service.
